What is it about sugar that makes it so completely and predictably addictive to the deepest and hungriest animal lurking in ourselves? I mean we all know, by now, that it is detrimental to our health in absurd quantities we consume and is practically like cocaine for cancer cells. The delicious little criminal can be found in nearly every food we find dear to our warped palates and yet we crave more of it in mind bending concoctions of the desert family that would put the tooth fairy into a coma. I have long abstained from deep indulgences of the stuff by limiting any intake to lightly sweetened dark chocolate and the occasional bungee jump into a Ben & Jerry`s nightmare of joy. Of course dark and vivid images of dental excursions with the surround sound in full Dolby of miniature hydraulic drills remind me of the consequences of overindulgence. But as of late, I find myself surrendering to enemy lines of sea salt caramels and enough honey to make the bee union protest in uproar. And anything with that artificial sweetner crap is relished to the trash where it belongs. So a luscious quandry I do find myself in….now where is that peanut butter cup I left stranded yesterday?
