Gilbert Groove – 10/14/2021

I am a devoted drone of the television. That great magic box that projectile vomits entertainment from all corners of the world littered with facetious undertones and culturally inappropriate innuendos. A far cry from the days of three channels and no remote, today we are faced with a mind busting buffet of choices and myriad of devices to gaze into the hollow nothingness of altered reality. Reality TV has been reborn with reality snippets of video from the arcane to the moronic and we lap it up like a thirsty animal. It has been dubbed the idiot box for its apparent mind altering and wisdom numbing effects to those who worship the beast for longer than recommended (aka me). Taken in good measure, it is an invaluable tool for learning. But its true purpose is to lock our attentions from the mundane elements of our own lives and run down the clock with storytelling. To my credit, I do read whenever I`m commuting rather than stare in a prone position into my tiny electronic friend. I will continue to enjoy the whimsical nonsense of the A/V revolution until I notice my diaper needs to be changed and the remote falls from my cold, calloused hand.
