Gilbert Groove – 6/8/2021

Just outside my window is a vibrant vegetable garden boasting varietal specimens of salad fodder and well attended by herbivorous creatures with voracious appetites. We coexist with the understanding that we must all eat and as long as they don`t leave biting remarks or eat more than their fair share, no harm will bequeath our day. A rambunctious neighborhood cat had been ransacking the soil with its foul refuse as instinct dictates and only my fondness for the furry ninjas has held my hand from retaliation. An avid tendency toward gardening has long held a fascination for me and where I can lay seed to soil, I will partake and nurture their growth like fickle children. A true joy is to watch the process and revel in the bounty of your efforts, feeble as it may be. Of course, to share in your harvest is a timeless gift of bonding with anyone. Not so many are fortunate to experience this act and are far more prone to fear the lack of it. The sheer scale of waste in this country can be baffling and as aching bellies spread across a wider swath of the public, it is even maddening.

Share what you can. Grow food as a rite of passage. Giving food away will be your new diet plan if need be. Leave no stomach grumbling. Don`t make me hangry. You don`t want to see me hangry.
