Do you consider yourself a hoarder or a nimble minimalist? I believe it is quite natural for one to cherish objects as we move through life. It can be a hobby where a collection of anything symbolizes a goal or desire to fill one`s day with ambition and destiny. It may be a desire to increase value in an already growing pile of memorabilia as we begin to fathom financial reward into our vocabulary. It may be a need to be reminded of lost youth through nostalgic mementos that keep us linked to the past. For others, it`s an almost uncontrollable lust for accumulation regardless of its worth and merit to one`s life to the point that your home resembles an insane asylum of manufactured goods. Personally, I have a reasonable stash of baseball cards, comic books, stamps and some coins that have lied buried in my closet from state to state moves and something I can spend an evening with to recollect past notions of entertainment. I am now in the midst of middle of age with applications and offers coming in for the early geriatric recruits of the aging army to come. I can comfortably say that I can fit all my belongings in the back of my car if the need arose to relocate on a whim. I have lost the taste for possessions, but still enjoy the nicknacks of my childhood as listed. They bring some remnants of joy and until I need a new hip replacement, I will hold onto them.
What do you collect? Do you like vinyl records? It seems they are taking on a new form of Rennaissance revival even in the digital age we are drowning in. Talk to our resident DJ Joey Slick for he has amassed a museum of such delights and they are ready to be enjoyed by all.
