True Joints – 3/9/2023

I have and will always have a savory love affair with animal protein – aka MEAT – but my ravenous appetite for the juicy delicacies of dead flesh have waned over the years with major epiphanies stemming from enlightenment into how the tasty critters are farmed and dispatched to the soul impacting companionship of pets that open your eyes to the shallow cruelty we allow to all manner of beasts for our blood lust. Sure the attempts at substitutions to delightfully grilled bovine and swine tasted amply of cardboard and discarded garbage, but the offers now in play are subtly delicious and a beacon for more tongue deceiving products to sprawl across our plates. Massive and industrial efforts to put cheap, roasted chicken in our purview has resulted in a disconnect to the environment and a ticking time bomb to our health. This pandemic may very well be the pivot panacea we have been waiting for and shed some BBQ light on our habits and mode of thinking. I will miss the sizzling sounds of rendered fat, the lightly seared slice of whatever was killed that day, the glowing rotisserie giving light to my ambitious palate, but I will not miss the tormented cries of beasts in emotional and physical pain to provide pleasure for our gluttonous panderings.
