Tokyo Myo͞ozik – 4/22/2021

My feet tread the gravely perimeter of my home eliciting popcorn like echoes within the walled in exterior. A cup of heady, dark coffee with savory undertones of cardamon swishes silently in a ceramic cup of unknown origin. A Greater Roadrunner pauses mid stride and cocks his feathery noggin in my direction to either determine my level of hostility or evaluate the oozing slice of pepperoni pizza held nimbly in my hand. The desert flowers that flourish in the surrounding landscape yawn open to feast on the day to come. I exchange glances between my breakfast and the decidedly smirkish land bird who I swear has taken aggressive steps toward me. I feel naked despite my pandemic attire and feel as if all of nature is massing in alliance to extinguish a pathetic herald of mankind. A meager spark of courage wrapped in the flight response has me creeping backwards toward shelter. I have again vanquished the creeping shadow of boredom against incredibly non-existent odds. Long live caffeine and saturated fats!
