01. True Joints 2.4
Joey Slick
I totally don`t understand poetry. It`s like the written form of Jazz, which I also don`t get and obviously can`t appreciate since I can`t wrap my head around what is going on. When a True Joints album is blasting through my house like a musically inclined hurricane, I digest the rapid lyrics like one long strand of spaghetti, slurping up the message with a loud echo. I chew and chew, the words getting muddled in my mouth, I try to follow, but wind up spitting bits of pasta notes all over my keyboard. The underlying song and melody keep me at the table and have me asking for seconds despite my fickle stomach. As with all the finer flavors of life, some take more to develop an acquired taste for. But as I did with sea urchin (uni) and raw liver, the bold attacks on my novice palate seem less hostile and more welcoming. It`s like your enemy walked across no-man`s land to offer you a plate of their country`s finest fare to give you a different perspective of their identity. Not an enemy. A friend. A purveyor of tasty morsels that reflect their culture. I want to taste all of that. I want to embrace it and wrap my soul around it. Please do the same.
