I`ve lived for half a century and yet, I seemingly have more questions than when I was a boy. The childish inquiries were more curious in nature as I navigated new experiences and noticed changes in my own body and came to understood how life worked in its basic forms and mannerisms. As a man having eaten my fair share of life`s endeavors and passed the many rituals cast down by our predecessors, my base of knowledge and wisdom is suspect. As I entreat my mind with thoughtful reminiscences to guide my remaining days with a mindful path, external stimuli of malcontent and foreboding trample on any notions of a fortuitous future. This perhaps is far more gloomy than intended for despite the world, I remain an optimist, but the long shadows of doubt creep into the fold as the devastation wields its head with angry echoes. Before it was easy (and a jarring reminder of how shallow I have become to media fed disaster) to dismiss the tragic calamity of a few downtrodden souls, but we are now faced with the widespread destruction of lives across so many scales and the trembling words of the voices in power leave little in the way of confidence. I have never been so grateful for what I have and the thinly veiled calm of having avoided the worst of what ravages this country. The fickle threads of Fate may very well change all this with a swift cut.
Stay safe out there my friends and take a moment to think about those affected by the furious Earth.
